Denomination's 'neglect' stuns pastor

An African-American group is outraged with a denominational vote endorsing healthcare reform.

There is nothing so far to stop the government from financing abortions, yet the Church of God in Christ -- led by Bishop Charles Blake, Sr. -- supports it. Pastor Stephen Broden of Fair Park Bible Fellowship in Dallas tells OneNewsNow that stance ignores the fact that 36 percent of babies slain in the womb are African-American.

church steeple"Certainly there seems to be a kind of neglect on the part of the gatekeepers, the [denomination's] leadership, to know the issues, to be aware of what the impact is on the community and how we are being devastated and decimated by this practice," says Broden. "And so I'm just stunned."

Statistics indicate that almost 1,400 African-American babies are aborted every day in America. But Broden says that is not the only issue in the healthcare package that gives him pause.

"We are deeply concerned, in the black pro-life movement, that this end-of-life counseling -- this euthanasia piece, this draconian measure to try to control the population -- is still sort of lurking there," the pastor laments.

Broden is also worried about healthcare rationing, because he says the federal budget cannot handle it. That is why he is calling on leaders of the Church of God in Christ to reverse course and withdraw their endorsement.
