A conservative alternative to American Association of Retired People (AARP) is speaking out against President Obama's healthcare agenda and recent appointment to oversee Medicare and Medicaid.

Daniel Weber (AMAC)Daniel Weber, president of The Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), is blasting Obama's recess appointment of Donald Berwick to head the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMMS) at the Department of Health and Human Services. Berwick leads the liberal think tank, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and has openly called for healthcare "rationing" similar to the British healthcare system.

Weber describes the recess appointment as "an attack on the democratic process and the rights of every Medicare recipient to the best healthcare possible."

"And if you read their website, all they talk about is value of the medical treatment -- not health of the older people, but the value," notes the AMAC president. "In other words, they're more interested in saving...and conserving money on healthcare than they are in older citizens."

Weber contends Berwick is the "worst possible" choice to administer programs affecting senior citizens. "His stated objective is to achieve 'cultural change' in our healthcare system," Weber states in a press release. "Dr. Berwick has repeatedly said the U.S. healthcare system is disjointed, inefficient, and ineffective."

Dr. Donald Berwick (CMS)The AMAC leader wonders how the CMMS leader-designate can say that in light of U.S. cancer cure rates when compared with other advanced nations and the high percentage of Americans who say they are satisfied or very satisfied with their healthcare plans.

According to Weber, AMAC seeks to educate citizens on issues that not only threaten U.S. democracy, but policies which do not have seniors' best interest in mind.

"AARP has proven [itself] to be a liberal-oriented group," he remarks. "They are interested in advancing socialistic ideas and abandoning the traditional American values. So the purpose of AMAC is to restore the old-fashioned American values...that made us a great country."

Having grown to over 100,000 members since its founding in 2007, Weber says AMAC strives to advocate for seniors by promoting common-sense government and offering discounts on insurance, hotels, car rentals, and other products and services.
