TEA party logoAmid claims of racism, another tea party member is coming to the defense of the conservative movement.

Conservative author, columnist, and veteran Ron Miller says tea party members are everyday Americans who are merely using their First Amendment rights to restore the nation.

"I am a very proud participant in the tea party movement myself -- and being black, that usually raises some eyebrows," he notes. "But the fact is, the people who are in the tea party movement are the folks that I go to church with, they're the folks I see at Wal-Mart, [and] they're the folks that I go to football games with on Friday nights."

Ron Miller (columnist, commentator)Miller tells OneNewsNow one of the things he notices while talking to other tea partiers is that many of them have never been this engaged in the political process.

"There was a certain level of trust that they had in their elected officials, [but] they realize now that they can't rely on their elected officials to adhere to some of the very basic tenets of what it means to be an American," the columnist explains. "So they're taking matters into their own hands, and this is the only way they know how to do it, the only way they know how to express themselves. So, yes -- they are everyday Americans by any definition I can think of."

Along with his columns, Miller is the author of SELLOUT: Musings from Uncle Tom's Porch.
