homosexual questionA Christian activist wonders why security guards at a mega-church in Illinois would greet the Word of God with hostility, while church leaders had a face-to-face meeting with officials of a homosexual rights group.

Last month, representatives of the homosexual group Soulforce visited the main campus of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Illinois. The visit to Willow Creek was the final stop in a campaign spearheaded by Soulforce to foster dialogue between mega-churches on homosexual issues.

A spokeswoman for Willow Creek says a group of pastors and elders met with Soulforce members. However, Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality stood outside the church on a public sidewalk, holding a sign that read, "Homosexuality is sin, case closed. God. 1 Corinthians 6."

During the protest, a member of LaBarbera's group was approached by a church security guard who ordered him to leave private property. Police were called, but they informed Willow Creek staffers that LaBarbera and others were within their First Amendment rights.

LaBarbera argues it appears Willow Creek church officials are putting political correctness over the authority of scripture. "I think there's a problem with dialoguing about basic biblical doctrine," he contends. "I doubt that you would ever see Willow Creek open its doors to pornography activists or pro-adultery activists."

The Christian activist believes a "dialogue" with homosexual activists on what the Bible says about the issue of homosexuality is inappropriate. "The fact is, the Bible speaks the truth," states LaBarbera, "and Christians are called to defend it to the public, no matter how politically incorrect it is."

Willow Creek church officials did not return calls seeking comment on the incident.
