In his new book, Atheism Remix, Dr. Albert Mohler, Jr., says Christians must be equipped to respond to a broad and wide acceptance of atheism. He believes four best-selling authors – Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens – have helped make atheism more culturally acceptable than ever before.
Also, Mohler contends many atheists are focusing their efforts at colleges and universities. "In particular, I would argue they're out to get young converts. They're out to shape the coming generation to assume that the atheist position is not only intellectually respectable, but far more intellectually respectable than any kind of religious belief. And so it is an explicit effort to try to make the atheist worldview the normative worldview," Mohler explains.
Believers, according to Mohler, must practice their faith with integrity before a watching world.
"...[O]ne of the things that should embarrass [Christians]...is that some of these atheists know much more about Christianity than some Christians," Mohler adds. "...That ought to expose a real vulnerability on the part of many Christians who simply aren't knowledgeable enough about the faith."
Mohler is president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.
