Planned Parenthood clinic builders meet protest

constructionPro-life forces in Portland, Oregon, have made an impact on a planned abortion facility.

When the City of Portland gave Planned Parenthood nearly a city block of land for constructing a large abortion facility, a pro-life organization took action. Bill Diss of Precious Children of Portland says they began informing residents and pastors in the area, and began picketing clinics.

"We also went to the general contractor, Walsh Construction, with signs, and then we went to the architect twice with signs," said Diss. "...[S]omeone came out of their building and slugged one of the [protestors]...[w]e have that on video."

That contractor has announced that it will withdraw from the construction project, but according to Diss the firm plans to form a limited liability corporation and build the clinic under a different name. The pro-life group will be ready to challenge that approach as well, says Diss. He emphasizes Planned Parenthood wants to build the abortion clinic in a heavily African-American area. Critics of Planned Parenthood have noted in the past the group's propensity for focusing its efforts in black neighborhoods.
