A Christian apologist who once dealt with same-sex attractions is trying to help others dealing and struggling with the issue.
Debbie Thurman is a freelance journalist, speaker, author, wife, and mother, who at one time in her life struggled with same-sex attraction. She recently launched a website called TheFormers.com and notes the site is not meant to be a place of harsh criticism or judgment, but instead a place where people can find the truth, spoken in the right spirit. "We're about redemption, about obviously celebrating what the Lord has done in our lives -- but that's one part of the community," Thurman explains. "We want to make sure that anybody and everybody feels welcomed to come and visit the website, which means that you can partake of the many resources that are there." One of the resources, called "Pastor's Corner," has articles and information for churches and pastors who wish to minister to people struggling with homosexuality. "To be honest with you, I'm not sure the church has gotten very high marks in how to deal with the issue of homosexuality and, specifically, how to reach out and offer a redemptive hand to those who are struggling," Thurman adds. "You know, some are even not very comfortable with those of us who have come through the struggle and are not quite sure even what to do with us." Thurman says she was prompted to speak out about her struggles with homosexuality after she realized the extent to which pro-homosexual activism had affected the culture.
