The Jackson & Coker Industry Report conducted a survey last month about doctors' opinions on stem-cell research. Pro-lifers should be encouraged by the findings.
Dr. David Stevens of the Christian Medical & Dental Association (CMDA) has seen the survey of 550 medical professionals and says they are now seeing a shift, even in the medical community, on using adult stem cells more frequently than embryonic stem cells, which he believes are tiny human beings. "Study after study is showing [adult stem-cell research] is actually where the promise is for cures that everyone wants, and this latest poll is beginning to show that doctors and other scientists are becoming much more open to adult stem-cell research and moving away from embryonic stem-cell research," Stevens concludes. He admits he was surprised by the study's results. "But I was also gratified," Stevens adds. "Scientists are slow to change their opinion -- and doctors are no different." LifeNews.com reports the majority of doctors polled favor the use of adult stem-cell research to avoid the ethical debate surrounding embryonic stem cells. Research on human embryos has cured nothing, according to Stevens, but has created more medical problems when used. But research using adult stem cells -- research that kills nothing, he notes -- have produced useable results in more than 60 medical maladies.
