Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has accepted an award from Planned Parenthood named after the pro-abortion group's founder, who once referred to blacks as "human weeds."

Hillary Clinton portrait Secretary of State Clinton was presented on Friday evening with the Margaret Sanger Award at a Planned Parenthood event in Houston (see earlier story). The award, says Planned Parenthood, is presented annually to recognize "leadership, excellence, and outstanding contributions to the reproductive health and rights movement."

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, says it is shocking that Planned Parenthood is not more savvy with its public-relations work. Sanger, she notes, was a leading eugenicist.

"She was very frank about her desire to exterminate African-Americans to 'purify the white race,'" Dannenfelser shares. "She said the best thing that families, big families can do is to kill its [sic] infants. This was a callous, angry, harsh eugenicist -- and I cannot believe that Planned Parenthood still names its top award after her."

Marjorie Dannenfelser Dannenfelser believes Secretary Clinton is ignorant about Sanger's past. "What she is doing for Planned Parenthood is raising its profile and helping it raise money based on the reputation of Margaret Sanger," she argues. "So in essence, Hillary Clinton is in inter-generational partnership with Margaret Sanger, even if she doesn't realize it."

The pro-life leader says as a black American and leading supporter of Planned Parenthood, President Obama should be insisting that the group should cut its association with a woman who was bent on "exterminating his race."

Speaking to the Planned Parenthood convention in Houston, Clinton said women's "health and reproductive rights" -- typically code words for legalized abortion -- are building blocks of democracy as well as key issues in President Barack Obama's foreign policy. In fact, Clinton noted that a priority of the Obama administration's new direction in Afghanistan is ensuring the expansion of women's rights there.

Planned Parenthood inaugurated the Margaret Sanger Award in 1966. One of the four inaugural recipients was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
