Plans are being unveiled for President Obama's visit to Notre Dame on May 17.
Barack Obama, whom pro-life groups describe as the most pro-abortion president in America's history, is scheduled to make the commencement speech at Notre Dame and receive an honorary law degree. Eric Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League says many Catholics and Protestants are planning protests. "And in advance of this big event, we've put up two billboards on the Indiana Toll Road -- a very highly traveled piece of highway in the country -- that say, 'Barack Obama is pro-abortion choice. How dare you honor him?' And it's all addressed to Notre Dame," he points out. Demonstrators from several states will travel to Notre Dame with signs graphically displaying what abortion does to unborn babies. "And we expect hundreds of people to be participating in this protest along a major thoroughfare in South Bend that leads into Notre Dame," he adds. "Then we will be going on campus -- we'll be putting the graphic signs away at the request of the students -- and we'll be going onto campus to join the prayer vigil at the grotto on the Notre Dame campus during the ceremony itself." The founder of the Pro-Life Action league, Joe Scheidler, is an alumnus of the school and a former teacher there.
