Activists say NJ report shows need for homosexual 'marriage'

homosexual marriageActivists promoting homosexual "marriage" in New Jersey are touting a report that the state's civil union law has not ended alleged discrimination against homosexual couples.

Promoters of civil unions in New Jersey argued that they were the perfect compromise -- providing legal recognition for homosexual couples while respecting the religious belief that marriage is an institution of the church that should not be redefined by the state. But in a report released last week, a state panel heavily loaded with homosexual marriage supporters claimed civil unions had created a "second-class status."

Peter LaBarbera with Americans for Truth About Homosexuality credits homosexual activists for a strategy that is misleading -- even to many Christians. "The 'second-class status' is, of course, harkening back [sic] to institutionalized racism in this country," he points out. "And so they're ripping off the black civil rights movement to promote homosexual relationships ... [and] people have been fooled into believing these civil rights arguments."

LaBarbera argues that anyone who believes homosexual activists will be satisfied with civil unions or domestic partnerships does not understand the homosexual agenda. "Once you start going down this road of the government getting behind homosexual unions, you create incentives for further pro-gay policies," he warns.

New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine has promised to sign a same-sex marriage bill into law, but not until after the 2008 elections. Political analysts from both parties say Corzine fears a backlash of conservative voter turnout that could cost Democrats control of Congress if another "gay marriage" law went into effect before November.
