The president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation is calling on Christians to combat climate change.
In his new book Last Chance: Preserving Life on Earth, Larry Schweiger writes that "our victory [over climate change] will be a moral victory" and a "victory for the rights of unborn generations." He adds that Christians can no longer continue to recklessly use carbon-based fuels, which he claims are causing more wildfires, the oceans to rise, and the icecaps to melt. Schweiger believes that use of fossil fuels have also increased hurricane activity. "I think it's important to realize that there are these cycles that occur," he argues. "For example, this year we are seeing increased storms in the Pacific and particularly in Asia." OneNewsNow asked Schweiger to expound on the statement "victory for the rights of unborn generations," especially since it has been suggested by various climate-change alarmists and Oregon State University that having children only increases an individual's carbon footprint. Some have even suggested that having more than two children is akin to committing climate crimes. "Well, first of all I don't believe there's an anti-human agenda under the debate," he responds. "I would suggest that people who care for other people are giving voice to this issue because they recognize the severe consequences [of climate change] to our children and their children." When asked if saving the earth from alleged climate change is as important as carrying out the Great Commission, Schweiger pointed to Revelation 11:18 where God sets forth a judgment statement that he would destroy those who destroy the earth. The author concludes that fighting global warming is "an obligation to the unborn" and completely pro-life.
