Temple Mount riots spotlight religious oppression

A pro-Jewish movement within Israel's Likud Party says that Arab riots on Jerusalem's Temple Mount won't end until the government of Israel restores the Jewish holy site to Jewish control.

Nine police officers were recently injured as Arab rioters hurled rocks and bottles at security forces attempting to stem the violence that began earlier in the morning. According to Israel National News, the riots stemmed from calls by radical Muslim groups in east Jerusalem to "defend" the Temple Mount from conquest by what they called "radical Jewish right-wing elements."

Rob Muchnick, U.S. spokesman for Manhigut Yehudit (Jewish Leadership Movement), says the solution to the rioting is to restore full Jewish sovereignty to the Temple Mount and to give Jews full rights to pray there.

Moshe Feiglin"There's no freedom of religion. The Muslims can come and go as they please for 24-7. A Jew has a couple hours a day sometimes in the morning and can't pray on their holiest site," Muchnick argues. "So when my group takes over, Moshe Feiglin, the head of my group, is going to go into Temple Mount and pray to God from the Temple Mount to show the whole world that this is ours."

Furthermore, he says, the Dome of the Rock mosque and other Islamic sites must be removed from the Temple Mount.

Dome of the Rock"We're not going to use rocket-propelled grenades," he assures. "We'll take it down very carefully. We'll stick them on a barge and we'll ship them to Saudi Arabia. It has to come down. That's where the temple goes."

Muchnick says it is unfortunate that no Israeli prime minister has been willing to do what they advocate.
