Peter Vadala was fired from a Boston Brookstone’s bookstore at Logan Airport in Massachusetts after an encounter with a female manager.
She came to him exclaiming she had gotten engaged. When Vadala asked, “Where’s he (referring to her fiance) taking you for a honeymoon?” the female corrected him by saying, “Where’s she taking me?” Vadala asked for clarification and the coworker explained that her fiancée was a female. The situation made Vadala uncomfortable, but his homosexual superior brought the subject up no less than four times until finally, when the two were outside earshot of other employees, Vadala explained he did not agree with her lifestyle. After telling him to “Get over it,” the manager reportedly said, “HR, buddy,” implying that she would seek retaliation. A few hours later, Vadala was informed he was suspended from his job without pay, and two days following, he was given a letter of termination. The letter purports that Vadala stated his coworker’s life was “deviant,” and that he said, “I hate those people.” The former employee denies making those statements. Brian Camenker of MassResistance notes, “This, of course, is more pernicious because they are targeting people of faith, and they are threatening fines and jail times, and this is being pushed by a very militant and hostile group of people that are doing it for the purpose of silencing dissent.”
