An official government investigation into the health risks of homosexual practices is the wish of one conservative activist.
Thousands of public schools are taking part in the "Day of Silence" today. The homosexual activist event purports to "bring attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools" by challenging students to remain silent. But because the event promotes the homosexual lifestyle, many concerned parents are opting to keep their children at home for the day. Peter LaBarbera, with Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, believes parents should be guiding their children away from homosexuality, not affirming it. The pro-family spokesman supports his claim by noting the FDA's explanation for banning blood donations from homosexual men -- an explanation that he believes reveals just how dangerous the lifestyle is. "The FDA says for example that [homosexual men] are, as a group, at increased risk for HIV, Hepatitis B, and certain other infections that can be transmitted by infusion," he details. "[Homosexual men] since 1977 have had a HIV prevalence that is 60 times higher than the general population, 800 times higher than first-time blood donors, and 8,000 times higher than repeat blood donors." But LaBarbera says despite the documented health risks associated with male homosexual behavior, homosexual activists like Joe Solomonese at the Human Rights Campaign claim barring homosexual men from giving blood is "discriminatory." LaBarbera also argues that many liberal school districts teach false facts about AIDS. He says they imply that everyone is at equal risk for contracting the disease -- even though in 2005 71 percent of U.S. male AIDS cases involved homosexuals. He contends that many American young people are not being informed about other health risks associated with homosexuality either -- such as increased infections of the Hepatitis B or C virus and the herpes virus. "We have all this evidence out there that homosexual behavior is dangerous," the activist point out, "and yet our politically correct elites are promoting gay identity" to teens and children. Although LaBarbera notes there have been numerous taxpayer-funded studies on the dangers of smoking, no government studies on the health risks of homosexuality have been conducted.
