America prayerA pro-family leader is pleased that two prominent members of Congress have written a letter requesting the Air Force to justify why it yanked an invitation for him to speak at a function after he publicly supported maintaining the ban on homosexuals serving in the military.

As previously reported on OneNewsNow, Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council (FRC), was originally scheduled to speak at the National Prayer Luncheon at Andrews Air Force Base February 25th. But two days after he forcefully spoke out against repeal of the 1993 law which bans homosexuals from military service, he received a letter from the Andrews Air Force base chaplain's office, informing him that he was no longer invited to speak.

Congressmen Eric Cantor of Virginia and Roy Blunt of Missouri have since sent a letter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates, asking for an explanation. Perkins suspects it to be a free speech issue.

Tony Perkins"They see not just about a dis-invitation to speak, but the fact that the policy change that the president is pushing to force the military to embrace homosexuality could very well lead to a silencing of speech and hindering religious liberties on military bases," Perkins explains.

The FRC president adds that the success of Obama's efforts to change the law could depend on the success of another initiative.

"I think a lot hinges on the outcome of this healthcare debate," he notes. "I think if the president is unsuccessful in ramroding this government takeover of healthcare though...he will face additional challenges with his other controversial agenda items."

So Perkins believes the next several weeks will be critical in determining whether Obama is going to be able to drive a very radical agenda through Congress.
