An Iowa congressman has joined a chorus of conservative and pro-family leaders calling on the president to fire his controversial "safe schools" czar.
Kevin Jennings has come under heavy criticism from social conservatives in recent months. Most call attention to his founding of the pro-homosexual Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). But Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) has become the first member of Congress to call for his ouster as head of the Education Department's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. The Iowa lawmaker says for one thing Jennings has no-background in anti-drug work -- and he says Jennings' only experience in education has been indoctrinating children about homosexuality. "He's been hostile towards heterosexuality," notes King. "And the sum total of his life's work has been the promotion of homosexuality, much of it within our schools -- and much of [that] within our elementary schools." King adds that Jennings is an admirer of homosexual activist pioneer Harry Hay, who supported the agenda of the North American Man-Boy Love Association and was even featured on the cover of one of its publications. "He has said publicly he was always inspired by Harry Hay," the lawmaker points out. "Harry Hay is a self-professed communist and one who advocated openly and publicly for adult men to have sexual relations with young boys. If that is the person that always inspired Kevin Jennings, Kevin Jennings has got to go -- and he needs to be fired by the president." King says he has sent a letter to President Obama urging him to fire Jennings. The group Staying True to America's National Destiny (STAND) has called for Jennings to step down, as have groups like Family Research Council and the American Family Association -- all citing concerns similar to those voiced by Congressman King.
