AFA launches boycott of PepsiCo
PEPSI GAVE $1 MILLION TO GAY AGENDA GROUP
Story by AFA Journal Staff. Sources cited for News of Interest indicate source of basic information only. January 2009
Pepsi,
the number two soft drink company in the U.S., gave a million dollars
to two homosexual political groups that lobby for same-sex marriage and
other gay agenda issues, prompting an AFA boycott.
In September
Pepsi gave $500,000 to Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and
Gays (PFLAG), a vocal and activist gay rights group that calls those
who oppose homosexual marriage “the forces of prejudice and
discrimination.”
PFLAG not only cheered the California Supreme
Court’s ruling on May 15 which legalized same-sex marriage, it was also
vociferous in its opposition to Proposition 8, the ballot initiative
which restored traditional marriage in California on Election Day.
“PFLAG has committed to working with organizations within California to
defeat the [Prop 8] measure,” Jody M. Huckaby, executive director of
PFLAG, said prior to the November 4 vote.
According to the
homosexual Web site Advocate.com, the gift from Pepsi to PFLAG was
earmarked for the group’s “Straight for Equality” campaign. PFLAG said
the campaign is intended to help straight allies to “transform people’s
attitudes and perceptions of gay individuals and the gay community …
and effect real and lasting change” in society.
Pepsi’s director of
PepsiCo Corporate Contributions, Jacqueline Millan, said her company
was an enthusiastic supporter of PFLAG. “We are delighted to continue
our partnership with PFLAG.”
Randy Sharp, AFA’s director of
special projects, said AFA wrote Pepsi on October 14 and again on
October 29 asking the company to remain neutral on the issue of
homosexuality.
The company has thus far not responded to those letters.
It’s not the only time Pepsi has supported the gay agenda. With its own
corporate float it was a prominent supporter of the 35th Annual Lesbian
and Gay Pride Parade in New York City; sponsored the PrideVision gay TV
network in Canada; and, according to Advocate.com, has also “given
generously to other gay advocacy groups, including the Human Rights
Campaign,” the nation’s largest homosexual activist organization.
Pepsi also gave $500,000 to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and scored
a perfect 100 on HRC’s Corporate Equality Index. The Index awards
points for each company policy that advances the gay agenda, and Pepsi
has been flawless, as evidenced by domestic partner benefits,
non-discrimination policies, diversity training, and marketing and
advertising to the homosexual community.
According to HRC,
Pepsi’s insurance benefits plan even covers the “transition” from one
gender to another, including “surgical procedures,” “hormone therapy”
and “mental health counseling.”
