St. Louis has settled a free-speech lawsuit after a little prodding by a federal judge.
The problem started when a ministry called Apple of His Eye had members expressing their faith at a public park. Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) attorney Kevin Theriott tells OneNewsNow more about the case. "There was a so-called 'PrideFest' going on that celebrates homosexual behavior, and [the ministry members] were threatened with arrest for continuing to distribute literature that expresses the biblical view on homosexual behavior," he says. The ministry filed a voluntary dismissal of the case after reaching an agreement with the city. "It's our position, and always has been, that Christian groups shouldn't be banned from public areas for expressing their beliefs, and we're pleased that the city has finally recognized the First Amendment rights of ministries like Apple of His Eye and others that want to share their viewpoint on important social and moral issues," Theriott reports. The settlement came only after ADF attorneys won an initial court order against the city, and eventually St. Louis officials decided to avoid pursuing the litigation. The court has issued a permanent injunction, protecting the ministry's literature distribution at all public places in the city of St. Louis, including public sidewalks.
