Religious discrimination - or dress code violation?

Home DepotA 20-year-old Florida man has a beef with a former employer over a button that mentions God.

 

Trevor Keezer of Okeechobee worked for a local Home Depot store -- but no more. "I lost my job due to wearing a button that says 'One Nation Under God,'" he explains. "And I wore it for a year and a half and started bringing my Bible to work a few weeks prior."
 
Upon being terminated, Keezer says he felt hurt and offended -- but shares that he had purpose in wearing the button: "To support the country and my brother, a current soldier over in Iraq -- he's fixing to head out. [And to] support God."
 
Although he is a committed Christian, Keezer says he was not trying to push his faith on customers or employees. "If a person asked a question, I would say something to him," he remarks, "but no, I would not push it on nobody [sic]. I would read my Bible on my own time and not bother anybody."
 
Keezer's lawyer, Kara Skorupa, believes it is a case of religious discrimination, and notes federal and state laws exist to deal with the issue. Irrespective of Keezer wearing the button for a year and a half at work, Home Depot officials contend he was fired for violating the company dress code, which stipulates wearing only company-provided pins and badges.
