The Alliance Defense Fund (ADF) is suing a New Jersey school district for silencing a student while she expressed her pro-life views.

David Cortman (Alliance Defense Fund)ADF attorney David Cortman explains to OneNewsNow that the case in Bridgeton is a clear example of why educators need to inform themselves on students' rights provided by the Constitution.

"Even though the county this high school is located in has the highest rate of teen pregnancies in the entire state, they censored this young student's pro-life speech opposing abortion because they didn't agree with the point of view," the attorney says.

Pro-life Day of Silent SolidarityThe girl was participating in the Stand True Ministries Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity, which is a student-led event occurring outside the classroom. The point of the occasion is to allow students to exercise their constitutional rights on the issue of abortion.

"She was doing two things," Cortman illustrates. "Number one, she was wearing an armband with the word 'LIFE' on it, [which] interestingly enough was upheld by the Supreme Court over 30 years ago. [Secondly,] she was handing out flyers with a picture of a baby girl on it, just talking about her views opposing abortion, and that was it."

School officials forced the student to discontinue her pro-life display, and Cortman says they violated her constitutional rights in the process. ADF has filed suit to protect her and others in the future.
