An international relief organization is raising funds to open a rescue and rehabilitation home for American child victims of sex trafficking.
The organization is called International Crisis Aid (ICA), and one of its goals is to rescue children from sex trafficking around the world. ICA has seven rescue homes in Ethiopia and Cambodia, and one is planned for St. Louis, Missouri. Jennifer Jones, the developmental director with ICA, says there are many sex-trafficking victims in the United States. "There are currently over 300,000 American children at risk of being trafficked for the sex-slave industry every year," she points out. "We learned that there are only 49 beds available for American victims of sex trafficking." The lack of available help is what prompted ICA to develop plans for a house for child sex-trafficking victims in America. She says there are many success stories. "By the time they go through our program and graduate, they are a completely different person," she explains. "You can see them open up, you see the vulnerability come out and that child-like faith come out, and all of a sudden they have hope and see they can have a brighter future." ICA also works in Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Korea, and Indonesia.
