cross in cuffs persecutionChristians in Pakistan have succeeded in getting officials to file a complaint against local security officials and Muslim clerics in connection with a murderous rampage targeting believers.

On August 1, seven Christians were killed in Gojra after rampaging Muslims set fire to more than 50 houses. The Muslims were acting on an unsubstantiated rumor that someone had blasphemed a copy of the Koran.

Dr. Carl Moeller, president of Open Doors USA, says Taliban leaders are gaining power throughout much of Pakistan.
 Carl Moeller
"The Taliban is finding itself in a position in many parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan of literally being the de facto government. The Pakistani government and of course the U.S.-backed Afghan government are trying to root out the Taliban in new waves of military intervention," he points out. "But at the grass roots level, in many of the provinces and villages, the Taliban continues to be the law of the land."

Christians make up less than five percent of the population in Pakistan, which is mainly Muslim.
