Tea Party signTea Party organizers in Massachusetts cancelled a rally Sunday after receiving pressure from Republican operatives concerning a guest who was scheduled to speak.

Jesse Segovia, chairman of the Lexington Republican Committee, claims several candidates withdrew from the rally because it included Brian Camenker, who leads the pro-family organization MassResistance!. Camenker and several other candidates were invited to speak at the Tea Party event to be held on the historic Lexington Battle Green, and he was stunned by the decision to call the event off.

"The fact that the Republican Party is doing this and stopping a Tea Party that they don't like is just beyond the pale," the pro-family leader contends. "It's just extremely offensive."

Brian CamenkerEric Dahlberg, a Republican candidate for state Senate from the third Middlesex District, tells the Lexington Minuteman that some consider MassResistance to be a hate group and did not want to participate in the rally with the group's president on the program.

"It's horrible. What they're trying to do is marginalize me personally and marginalize anyone who is basically pro-family as somebody who should not have this public forum at a Tea Party," he concludes.

But despite this cancellation, Camenker has since spoken at other Tea Party rallies this week. Meanwhile, along with Dahlberg, four other Massachusetts Republicans withdrew -- including WRKO morning radio talk-show host Todd Fienburg.
