A member of Congress wants sex-selection abortion stopped in its tracks in America.
Leading pro-life Congressman Trent Franks (R-Arizona) has introduced a bill, called the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act, to ban sex-selection abortion -- a practice that has been common in some foreign countries and is now becoming more common in the U.S. "The irony of all this is that India and China are famous for sex-selection abortions, and now they have moved to curtail that in their own countries because they have had such disastrous results," Franks explains. "But unfortunately, the cultural aspect of it has begun to disperse throughout the world, including our own country." Franks is a member of the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties Subcommittee. He tells LifeNews.com that unborn children could be being denied their civil rights, so the bill would also bar abortions on the basis of race. "In this country now, more black children are aborted than are born," Franks adds. "A little over half of black babies are killed before they are born." Franks believes passing the bill in Congress will be difficult, but hopes it will obtain approval within the next two years.
