Michael Farris, president of ParentalRights.org, is offering thanks to Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), Congressman Pete Hoekstra (R-Michigan), and Congressman Frank Wolf (R-Virginia) for standing up for parental rights. He says Congressman Hoekstra and more than 70 members of the House introduced House Joint Resolution 42, also known as the Parental Rights Amendment.

"We have our first Democratic co-sponsor, which was an exciting thing as well," he points out. "Senator Jim DeMint also announced last week that he would be shortly filing a companion measure in the Senate."

ParentalRights.org recently started a petition drive to get the constitutional amendment process rolling.

Michael P. Farris"It's necessary for us to have the amendment to stop judicial erosion -- parental rights are not being treated well in courts recently -- and also more importantly, to stop international law," he contends. "The U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child is headed at us at a million miles an hour, and we've got to put a stake through the heart of that vampire."

Farris adds that that the U.N. treaty may be voted on before the amendment, and he adds that they need a double-win -- that the treaty needs to be defeated and the amendment passed thereafter. The Parental Rights Amendment petition can be viewed at ParentalRights.org.
