Obama immigration summit snubs expert

Undocumented ImmigrantsA Republican congressman -- the ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Immigration -- thinks his staunch opposition to amnesty is the reason President Barack Obama didn't invite him to a recent White House summit on immigration.

Last week, President Barack Obama reiterated that his administration is committed to working with Congress to pass a comprehensive immigration reform. Obama discussed immigration with members from both political parties at the White House on Thursday. He says there still are differences on how to implement changes, but said all sides agree that the current system is broken "and needs fixing."

But Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) says despite serving as the top Republican on the House subcommittee that deals with immigration issues, he was not invited to attend the summit.

Steve King"If you're a reporter and you ask an embarrassing question at the press conference, they don't call on you again. If you're a critic of Obama, you're probably not invited to be part of the summit on immigration -- which by the way is very, very fine with me," he admits. "I'd rather be on the outside speaking up for the rule of law than I would on the inside simply going through the motions."

King says Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) was the only member of the House who opposed Obama's amnesty agenda invited to the conference.
