Another pro-homosexual 'marriage' push in DC

AIDS U.S. Capitol DCThe City Council of the District of Columbia is preparing to consider a move approving homosexual "marriage."

Councilman David Catania, an Independent and the first openly homosexual member of the Council, announced his plans Wednesday in a press conference covered by WAMU Radio. "Tuesday, I will be joined by nine members of the Council of the District of Columbia as we introduce the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Equality Act," he stated.

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality believes it is the wrong move because many citizens have already spoken out.

Peter LaBarbera"It violates the beliefs of the majority of African-American citizens of the District of Columbia -- and we certainly hope that Congress will use its oversight authority and overturn this gay 'marriage' legislation, if it passes," says LaBarbera. Congress has authority to overturn legislation approved by the District.

With nine co-sponsors signed on so far, there is little doubt homosexual marriage will pass. A public hearing is set for later in the fall before any vote will be scheduled.

During the summer, the District of Columbia passed a law recognizing same-sex marriages performed in states. The Council passed that measure 12-1 -- and it became law when Congress took no action.
