The city of Green Bay, Wisconsin, has won a legal victory over an anti-religion group.
Green Bay permitted a Christmas display on city property last year. A Nativity scene was placed at city hall, and after it was taken down at the end of the season, the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) filed suit. Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel and dean of Liberty University's law school, explains what has transpired since. "The good news [is] Liberty Counsel defended the city, and the judge has now literally sent the Freedom From Religion organization packing, saying that they had no right to bring this lawsuit," Staver explains. A year-and-a-half ago, FFRF lost a major lawsuit before the U.S. Supreme Court, a challenge against the government's faith-based grants. "Freedom From Religion Foundation is one of the most radical organizations in the country. And its intent in life -- its one goal -- is to eliminate Christianity from any kind of public expression," Staver contends. "It is not just like the ACLU; it is more radical -- and, in fact, ...with respect to its religious stance, makes [the ACLU] look like they're just playing games."
