Israel and Palestine flagsA conservative activist and former presidential candidate says a recent statement by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas should be a clear message to the Obama administration that the Palestinians have no desire to live in peace with the nation of Israel.

Since taking office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to endorse the notion of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel as a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He says, however, that Palestinian recognition of Israel as the national state of the Jewish people is crucial for progress in any future peace talks.

But on Monday, in a statement from Ramallah, Abbas flatly refused such a recognition. Gary Bauer, chairman of American Values, says Abbas's intentions are clear.

Gary Bauer 1"They will not recognize Israel as a Jewish state. And to me it signals that they're not only going to insist on a Palestinian state, they're going to insist on the right of however many Palestinians want to, to immigrate to Israel even if that demographically changes the nature of the Jewish state," he contends. "A lot of the people in the Middle East want an Islamic caliphate that controls the entire area of the Middle East, including Israel."

Bauer believes the goal of Israel's Islamic neighbors is not the two-state solution being pushed by the Obama administration, but for the state of Israel to be extinguished altogether.
