A closer look at union power

Chris Woodward   (OneNewsNow.com) Wednesday, August 22, 2012

A new book reveals how government unions are controlling America and robbing taxpayers blind.

Mallory Factor, author of Shadowbosses, says most people have no idea what is actually going on when it comes to unions.

Factor, Mallory"These government employee unions with their huge amounts of money are actually controlling a lot of what goes on in our politics today," he says. "Just take a look at something like the teachers union. The teachers unions alone take in $2 billion a year in dues, and most of that … is forced dues."

Mallory adds that 16 of the 23 right-to-work states still allow unions to force exclusive representation. In those situations, more than half the workers end up joining unions out of pressure.

"Do you realize that millions and millions of these government workers who are forced into unions and forced into collective bargaining have never voted to be in a union? Less than ten percent of the people who are in unions have ever voted for it," the author points out.

Along with being an author, Factor is the John C. West Professor of International Politics and American Government at The Citadel.  He was a senior fellow at the House Republican Study Committee from 2007 to 2011, and he chaired the Economic Roundtable for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2009.
