Hobby Lobby Appreciation Day is set for October 12. It was launched by a Texas resident.
Matt Baker, who is in the real estate business in the Austin, Texas, area, decided recently to generate support for Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby.
"I recognized that recently there seems to be a push by certain segments of Americans to boycott companies that maybe don't agree with their own philosophy --and in this particular case, when I heard about the boycott of Hobby Lobby, it was a simple decision for me to try to help Hobby Lobby through that boycott by drumming up more business because of the issues that they were dealing with," he explains.
Hobby Lobby is owned by the Green family, who are dedicated Christians and filed suit against the HHS mandate to provide free insurance coverage for drugs that cause abortion.
"Well, I think this is a great opportunity for us to stand up and be counted and say, Listen, we all have the freedom in America to believe how we choose," Baker says. "And in this particular case, we have a business owner who has a very clear religious opinion on an issue, and they should have the freedom in America to not to have to implement a law that contradicts their religious views."
Baker, who is also a committed Christian, has launched a Hobby Lobby Appreciation Day for October 12, which is also Columbus Day. He also has set up a Facebook page to promote it.
