Addressing 'shallow soil' believers

Charlie Butts   (OneNewsNow.com) Saturday, October 13, 2012

Inspired by his father's example, Franklin Graham has written a new book titled The Sower: Finding Yourself in the Parables of Jesus.

The book is actually a 31-day devotional that provides an application of the Parable of the Sower (Mark 4:3-9), sowing the seed of the gospel in people's hearts.

Graham, Franklin"It's a very important parable for us as believers to understand that the devil wants to take the seed that is sown," Franklin states. "I'm talking about the seed of the gospel that's in our life, the Word of God that's in our life that we hear. The devil wants to snatch and take it away, and we have to be careful that we don't have just shallow soil in our life, because when we hear the Word of God, and if we don't allow that word to mature in our life … and how does that mature? By studying it and meditating on it, re-reading it, studying it again, [and] re-reading it so it takes depth and so it takes a hold in our life."

Graham warns that if believers do not do that, they can quickly fall away when hard times hit, just like seed sown in the thorns, and be quickly choked out.

Once people put the principles of the sower into daily use, Graham hopes they will be more careful and aware of how they sow the seed of the gospel and the importance that all believers are called to be sowers.
