An influential pro-family leader in California says the state's Democrats have stepped up their attack on parents.
Since state Democrats handed him a flurry of anti-family bills to sign, all eyes are on Gov. Jerry Brown (D). Among the measures are two that target parents and parental rights (see earlier story).
AB 2109 would mandate vaccinations for children who are in public and private schools or are home schooled. SB 1476 would give a judge the authority to declare that a child can have three or more legal parents.
Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, says that the passage of these bills would be very harmful to children.
"Every child needs a father and a mother who are married and living under the same roof," he contends. "Everybody knows that's the ideal for a child's development physically, emotionally, mentally and -- yes -- even spiritually."
Thomasson feels the presentation of these measures is the "latest attack upon parents" by California Democrats.
"When we look at what the Democrats have done, they've gotten themselves a controlling majority in both the Assembly and Senate, and now have the governor's office, too," he lists. "So, whether you want to blame state government in California or thank good government in California, you can blame or thank the Democrats. It's all really on their watch; it's all within their power."
Brown has 30 days to veto or sign the bills.
