Politics-Gov't

Another Dem. Makes GOP-Nazi link

Becky Yeh - California correspondent   (OneNewsNow.com) Friday, September 07, 2012

One political commentator says California's Democratic Party chairman needs to focus on "actual arguments" rather than name-calling.

According to California Democratic Party Chairman Dan Burton, the Republican Party is comparable to the Nazis, and Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan to Joseph Goebbels, a notorious Nazi who led the Third Reich and was a close ally of Adolf Hitler.

In telling KCBS that GOP rhetoric is similar to Nazi propaganda, Burton said Republicans lie and "don't care if people think they lie."

Mammen, NeilNeil Mammen, a political activist and author of Jesus is Involved in Politics, suggests that Burton should focus on other things.

"We're wondering why the Democratic Party, which actually lines itself with more socialistic principles, feels fit to [say we're] using socialistic practices," he comments. "The reality of it all is what the gentleman needs to do is he needs to focus on what the actual argument is."

When Burton was told that California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) also compared former gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman to Goebbels and later had to apologize for that remark, Burton chose not to retract. Instead, he pointed out that Brown still won the race.

"The reality is -- what do Republicans want? We want less government control, so we are less like the Nazis," Mammen reasons. "We are more like those who helped the Founding Fathers, where we wanted the government out of our way."

Burton did eventually apologize for his words against the Republicans.
