A leading California family organization says a bad bill that would allow multiple people to be legally recognized as a child's parents is an obvious assault on the traditional family unit.
Since the California State Assembly approved SB 1476 by a vote of 51-26, Gov. Jerry Brown (D) is considering the language that would make it legal in the state for children to have more than two parents.
The bill was introduced by openly homosexual Senator Mark Leno (D) when he learned of a girl who lost the two lesbians acting as her mothers on the same day. In one day, the girl's biological mother was jailed, and her other lesbian "mother" was hospitalized.
Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, tells CBN News the bill is unnecessary.
"Think about the parents conflicting and vying for decision-making in the child's life, and think about the bad precedent this sets even for things like marriage," he poses. "If you can't just have two legal parents, and you can have more legal parents, then why do you limit marriage to two people? Why not have three to four people married?
"It's a horrible idea; it's completely unnecessary. Hey, if the kid doesn't have two parents who are in the picture, or the two parents are neglectful, then the judge should prefer the grandparents or other relatives -- not create bad law out of a hard case."
Leno's bill is in the company of several anti-family measures that are currently on the desk of Governor Brown, who has until the end of September to sign or veto them.
