A California-based family advocate says the citizens of San Diego will have a very hard choice when casting their votes for mayor -- or no choice at all.
Moral conservatives in that Southern California city face a dilemma as they decide which mayoral candidate they will cast their ballot for next Tuesday. The Republican candidate in the race is homosexual San Diego City Councilman Carl DeMaio, who is in a same-sex relationship and is openly "gay." Earlier this year, DeMaio sided with the city council to name a street after late homosexual politician Harvey Milk.
DeMaio's competitor, Democratic Congressman Bob Filner, has a long legacy of voting in favor of the LGBT agenda and recently urged the U.S. Navy to rename a ship after Milk.
Randy Thomasson, president of SaveCalifornia.com, tells OneNewsNow where he stands.
"I think about it, and I have decided that God's non-negotiables are something I will not abandon," he states. "For me personally, I will not support a candidate unless they oppose tax-funded abortions, unless they oppose homosexual, bisexual, transexual agendas, and [unless they] support religious freedom, support parental rights, and oppose pornography and obscenity. Those are things that they can never give away."
Earlier this year, San Diego-based Rock Church invited DeMaio to speak during a Sunday service, although church pastor Miles McPherson has been an outspoken advocate of California's Proposition 8, which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman.
Thomasson finds it troubling that DeMaio has won support from some conservatives.
"That may be of a surprise to people who heard DeMaio say he won't promote these issues despite being homosexual," the pro-family spokesman offers, "yet DeMaio has given promises to homosexual media and is very proud of his approving of the Harvey Milk Street and this large flag pole that is running a rainbow flag -- that's all city-supported. He seconded the motion to do all this."
