Planned Parenthood in Birmingham, Alabama, is being sued by a previous client for gross negligence.
Roberta Clark walked into the Birmingham facility two years ago for what she thought would be a routine first-trimester abortion. Cheryl Sullenger of Operation Rescue picks up the story with what happened next.
"She was given an ultrasound by a technician who apparently didn't know how to read them, and then she was given an abortion by an abortionist from California named Aqua Don Umoren.
"Umoren supposedly did a physical examination on her and confirmed that her pregnancy was 8 weeks and 4 days advanced; however, when the records were examined [later] the ultrasound showed that there was no baby present inside the womb, and that the abortion was completely unnecessary."
Clark had been given a suction abortion. Twenty-five days later she was taken to an emergency room where doctors discovered a ruptured tubal pregnancy requiring removal of the fallopian tube and a 13-week-old baby, plus the placenta. Clark is now infertile.
Sullenger notes that the clinic was on probation at the time of the incident and a later inspection revealed multiple deficiencies.
