The spring 40 Days for Life campaign launches today -- and the
volunteers are getting younger by the year.
Shawn Carney is co-founder of the pro-life event that has
counselors out in force at the nation's abortion clinics praying
and fasting for life. Carney says the upcoming observance is the
Days for Life ever.
"We have 260 cities, including a few new cities
which include Cape Town, South Africa, and Moscow, Russia," he
notes. "So this campaign has now gone from Texas to Moscow, Russia,
in just the last five years, and we're excited about that."
Carney credits prayer for the huge success in saving baby's
lives, nearly 7,000 so far, and rescuing abortion clinic workers
from the trade. He sees more and more youth participating in the
event, noting that the pro-life movement has become a youth
"Young people who often call themselves 'survivors of abortion'
-- born after 1973 -- are not only just pro-life, but they're
taking action," he says. "They'll go march. They'll go and
participate in a 40 Days for Life campaign. We've had 18-year-old
students lead 40 Days for Life campaigns. We've had college kids
lead 40 Days for Life campaigns."
Statistics indicate that most of the women having abortions are
between 18 and 30. Carney says the successes of the campaigns over
the years have been chronicled in a book called 40 Days for
Life, which is widely available.
With two memorial sites for the unborn vandalized and damaged,
pro-lifers are assured that their message is affecting people.
