Florida deputiesPeople need to start believing in a "war on cops" after two sheriff's deputies were gunned down in a Florida restaurant last week, says a law enforcement advocate.

According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, 22 officers have been shot in the line of duty in 2018, more than twice the next leading cause of death among officers, which is automobile crashes.

Marking the 21st and 22nd this year were Sgt. Noel Ramirez and Taylor Lindsey, both deputies with the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Department.

The assassin approached a restaurant where the two were having lunch and shot them through a window. He later killed himself, leaving authorities searching for a motive.

Randy Sutton with Blue Lives Matter says many people still deny cops are being targeted.

"The war on cops is very real," he says, "and the two casualties of yesterday are just another example."

Sheriff Bobby Schultz told Florida media that an anti-law enforcement climate didn't help.

"What do you expect happens when you demonize law enforcement?" the sheriff asked. "Every type of hate, every type of put-down that you can think of. The only thing these men were guilty of was wanting to protect you and me."

Sutton tells OneNewsNow that the assassination is part of a bigger problem in our culture: a deep issue separating us by race, religion, and even a uniform.

"And we have to confront it," he warns.
