Dome of the Rock 2A messianic Jewish leader hopes President Trump will take the next important step when it comes to recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Donald Trump is slated to deliver a speech today officially recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital. A report late Tuesday night indicates the president will include in his announcement that he will instruct the State Department to begin the multi-year process of moving the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Jan Markell, founder and director of Olive Tree Ministries, is among those who have signed a petition by the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem calling on the president to honor his campaign promise and stop the delay in moving the embassy.

"I do think that America would be greatly blessed in some way," says Markell, "based on Genesis 12:3. Will it happen? Time will tell. Personally I think that [Vice President] Mike Pence's evangelical Christianity is playing a role in influencing Donald Trump. And I know some of the [president's] evangelical advisory board members, and I know they're advising him to do this."

The ministry leader says she understands why Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government hasn't pushed the matter.

Markell, Jan (Olive Tree Ministries)"They know the minute that happens, terrorist attacks against Israelis will increase exponentially," says Markell. "So it's easy for Americans to say we have to do the right thing, but it's Israeli blood that will be shed when this happens – if it happens."

According to a spokesman for Abbas, the Palestinian leader warned President Trump of the dangers of an embassy move to peace efforts in the Middle East as well as to the security and stability in the region. Other government leaders have expressed similar concerns, some urging the Trump administration to delay and reconsider the decision.
