At least 216 babies born alive died during botched abortions in hospitals throughout the Canadian province of Quebec between 2000 and 2012, according to a new Quebec study.
The post-abortive deaths of the 216 abortion survivors are considered to have a “non-negligible” upward impact on the eastern Canadian province’s infant mortality rate, say the authors of the study. The researchers complain that Quebec must alter the way hospitals record such deaths and insist that the abortion-surviving babies must me more closely monitored to see how they are cared for during the few hours of life they experience outside the womb in hospitals.
Campagne Québec-Vie President Georges Buscemi argues that the researchers conducting the study represent the true spirit of the age, pointing out that they appear to be more concerned that the 216 intentional deaths of babies have the negative effect of inflating Quebec’s infant mortality rate — rather than showing any concern for the pain and discomfort the born-alive babies felt as they were left to die in hospitals.
"Terminations [i.e., abortions] may therefore inflate infant mortality rates, since fetuses born alive typically do not survive and may be registered as deaths,” the Quebec study’s researchers complained, according to LifeSiteNews. “Terminations can even impact international comparisons. Canada, for example, has surprisingly high infant mortality compared with other countries."
The inhumanity addressed
Buscemi brought to light the alleged inhumane intentions of those behind the study.
"Are they really concerned about the babies dying?" Quebec’s political leader mused. "Or are they just worried it will make Quebec look like a third-world country?"
According to the Quebec study, there was an 8.6-percent rise in the province’s overall infant mortality rate between 2000 and 2012 during the first day after birth, when compared to the rate between 1986 and 1999. Titled “Abortion and Infant Mortality on the First Day of Life,” the study’s statistics show that the overall rise in infant deaths is the result of a 20-fold increase in babies dying after surviving botched abortions.
The reason for the hike in infant deaths given by the authors of the study is blamed on the development of amniocentesis and ultrasound imaging used to detect fetal abnormalities. The report also indicates that when the induction — or poisoning — method is administered for late-term abortions, it causes a “significant” abortion failure rate … by their terminology, which actually means that more babies are surviving. Surviving babies were noted in the report as “nonviable and receive only palliative care.”
From 2000 to 2012, 19.4 babies died after surviving live abortions for every 100,000 live births in Quebec. Between 1986 and 1999, the number was only 1 out of 100,000.
Addressing the problem?
This problem can be solved by shifting the numbers around, researchers argue, with the goal being to get the alarming numbers down.
"’Termination’ was listed as the cause of same-day infant death in 205 cases between 2000 and 2012,” LifeSiteNews reports. “With another 11, termination was listed as a secondary cause. The researchers recommend that such deaths not be recorded as infant mortalities at all, since recording them as such inflates the rate.”
Numerous ethical questions surface as a result of the alarming rise in post-abortive deaths, the researchers concede, who note that the United Kingdom is the only nation that brings up the following concerns in its medical guidelines.
"How are such infants cared for?” the line of medical questioning begins. “If not resuscitated, is palliative care provided? Are the infants admitted to neonatal units or do they die in the delivery room? Are parents informed if the fetus survives? To what degree are women counselled beforehand about the [5 percent] possibility of survival?"
Buscemi says the study reveals the moral decline of society.
“[The report reveals the] devaluation of human dignity [in Canada and Quebec}, the Canadian politician told LifeSiteNews, adding that abortion has corrupted the medical system — especially in the way aborted babies are treated as statistical anomalies.
