A pro-life organization is applauding Louisiana state lawmakers for passing pro-life legislation this year.
One bill would ban abortion after 15 weeks and Gov. Governor John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, has said he intends to sign the bill despite pressure from liberal, pro-abortion groups urging a veto.
"Abortion is not only violence to an unborn child," says Benjamin Clapper, executive director of Louisiana Right to Life, "but it also hurts a woman and causes a lot of post-abortion trauma and syndrome in a woman's life."
Sen. John Milkovich (D-District 38) sponsored the bill.
Even if the governor signs the bill, the law would not go into effect unless a similar 15-week abortion ban in Mississippi, now tied up in the courts after a lawsuit, is resolved.
Clapper says Louisiana lawmakers also passed the Adoption Option Act, which requires abortion clinics to provide information to women on adoption services.
