Botched abortions are not uncommon, and reports of them rarely make it into the public, but an incident in Chicago could not be kept hidden.
"A patient just had a surgical abortion and she's bleeding excessively," a Planned Parenthood staffer told a dispatcher. "We're trying to stop the bleeding now."
According to Operation Rescue, which obtained the 9-1-1 recording, the 34-year-old woman was rushed to an emergency room from the same abortion clinic where more than 35 medical emergencies have been documented this year.
Cheryl Sullenger of Operation Rescue tells OneNewsNow that pro-life activists suspect that many botched abortions go unreported.
"But this example, when we can actually get a recording or some evidence that a medical emergency took place," she says, "those incidents are only just a very small, small fraction of the actual number of incidents that really take place at these abortion clinics."
Sullenger also alleges that women who suffer from abortion-related injuries often die after they have left the abortion clinic, making it even more difficult to learn the truth and warn other women of the dangers.
